***Black Obsidian is easy to differentiate among other black stones since it exhibits a “gray sheen.” Some of our Black Obsidian beads have gray sheen although it’s hard to capture them in a camera.

OM MANI PADME HUM

‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ (translation: ‘Hail the jewel in the lotus’) is a six syllable invocation (mantra) of Avlokitesvara, one who is invoked as the Protector from danger. It is claimed that one who recites this mantra will be saved from all dangers and will be protected. This mantra is widely used in Mahayana Buddhism. One can find this mantra inscribed on rocks, prayer wheels, stupa walls, loose stones heaped as Mani (jewels) on roads, paths, mountain passes, the approaches and exits of villages.

4 Eye Dzi invokes blessings from the four Bodhisattvas; smoothens your path in life; promotes healthy life and longevity; increases merit; casts away bad luck; protects against legal complications. The 4 Mahasattva Bodhisattvas are of particular significance in Mahayana texts: Maitreya (popularly known as Laughing Buddha), Avalokitesvara (popularly known as Kwan Yin), Manjusri, and Mahasthamaprapta. Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have put off entering paradise in order to help others attain enlightenment.

WHAT IS BLACK OBSIDIAN?

Black Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. It is a silica rich volcanic rock which can contain various mineral deposits. Often glassy in appearance and the colour can range from black, dark brown or dark grey.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF BLACK OBSIDIAN

Obsidian is a very protective stone, and is excellent for removing negativity. It is also excellent protection against psychic attacks. In particular obsidian protects the gentle from abuse. It is a very grounding stone, and very healing. Obsidian is also an excellent manifestation stone. Physically it benefits the stomach, intestines, muscle tissue, and can rid one of bacterial or viral infections. It sharpens and focuses internal and external vision, and helps get in touch with buried issues before they explode. Obsidian is related to the root chakra.
