She is revered as “One Who Hears the Cries of the World.” Kwan Yin reached a spiritual level where she could become an enlightened Buddha, elevated beyond life and death, but instead she chose to stay on Earth to help mankind improve their karma. She also is said to be able to help overcome depression, grief, illness, or any other major obstacles keeping one from peace. She is also a goddess of fertility, and is often shown holding a child.
